May 17, 2020: Djerba reacts drastically to new case recorded

If Tunisia has so far been spared the great misfortunes of the coronavirus known in other countries of the world, it is certainly thanks to the anticipatory and drastic measures it has taken to contain the disease. The suspension of the weekly market of Houmt Souk, this Sunday, May 17, 2020, is part of these measures. Reacting to the new case of COVID-19 registered in Djerba the day before, the city council decided not to allow the weekly market of Houmt Souk to resume its activities this week, as planned. This was for fear that a second wave of the epidemic would take place on the island. All the more so as it has suffered particularly badly as it has been one of the outbreaks of contamination in Tunisia. This decision also applies, according to the Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) agency, to the second-hand shop displays in Houmet Souk, Riyadh and Mellita.
