April 04, 2020: Press release from P.ASCOM

The Platform of Sub-Saharan Associations and Communities in Morocco (P.ASCOMS) encourages the efforts of the Moroccan authorities to manage the COVID 19 crisis and urges them to take measures in favour of irregular migrants, refugees and asylum seekers.

The platform of sub-Saharan associations and communities in Morocco has questioned the Moroccan government on the measures of containment on the lives of migrants, in particular: the difficulties of access to certain initiatives such as the exit permit, for homeless migrants and migrants in an irregular administrative situation. ASCOMS also stressed the lack of integration of this particularly vulnerable population among the social categories that will have to benefit from social care measures, such as employees declared and undeclared to the CNSS, and people working in the informal sector, who are hard hit by this crisis.

The ASCOMS platform joins Moroccan civil society in calling on the authorities and the government on “the need to put in place as soon as possible accompanying measures and humanitarian assistance for migrants, asylum seekers and refugees, in order to avoid a humanitarian disaster for these populations in the days and weeks to come. Solidarity measures in the face of this exceptional situation in the fight against COVID-19 must necessarily involve all social strata of the Moroccan population without any distinction”.
